Examples of Results of White Fillings

White Fillings

Tooth coloured materials are now used routinely for filling teeth, in preference to the older and more commonly used silver metal filling material.

The use of these composite materials which we can reliably bond to the tooth means that we can provide a very hard wearing and highly attractive final result to improve the look of your smile and allow you to laugh with confidence.

What Happens at an Appointment?

White fillings are completed in one easy appointment.

Firstly, the area is numbed so that the procedure is comfortable.  We then gently remove the portion of your tooth that has been damaged and then replace the missing tooth structure with a filling. Shining a bright blue light on the filling will harden the filling making it very strong.

White fillings match the colour of your natural teeth, to give you a natural looking smile with great dental health and function. You can speak, bite, chew and eat as normal.

Examples of Results of Veneers

Veneers

Dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth and change their colour, shape, size, or length.

Although veneers fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry because they create bright, white smiles with beautifully aligned, shapely teeth, they also protect the surface of damaged teeth and may eliminate the need for more extensive treatments. Other benefits include durability, an improved smile appearance and the need for little-to-no removal of tooth structure compared to crowns.

Regardless of what causes unattractive teeth, dental veneers may solve most or even all of your cosmetic dental issues, including:

Worn enamel: Over time, the thin, hard translucent substance covering your teeth (enamel) may become worn, dulled and discolored. Such wear and discoloration may be natural or result from a genetic predisposition. However, it often results from consuming soft drinks, tea or coffee; smoking; using certain medications, etc.

Wear and tear: Teeth naturally wear down as people age. Aged teeth are more likely to have chips, cracks or a generally uneven appearance.

Genetics: Certain people are born with abnormal spacing between their teeth that widens with age.

Uneven teeth: Uneven teeth can result from tooth grinding or general wear and tear.

Crowns

Examples of Results of Crowns

A Crown, or porcelain crown, is a cap, cover or restoration to replace the missing portion of a tooth.

There are many reasons for crowning teeth. These can be due to aesthetic considerations but most are due to a lack of remaining tooth structure.

Crowns are an ideal way to rebuild teeth which have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. The crown fits right over the remaining part of the tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape and contour of a natural tooth.

Crowns are created from a selection of different materials. There are currently three popular choices for crowns; we have detailed them below:

Porcelain bonded to precious metal: this is what most crowns are made from. A precious metal base is made and then porcelain is applied in layers over it.

All-ceramic: this modern technique offers a metal-free alternative, which can give the strength of a bonded crown and the appearance of a porcelain crown. Therefore it is suitable for use in all areas of the mouth.

Gold-alloy crowns: gold is one of the oldest filling materials. Today it is used with other metal alloys to increase its strength, which makes it very hardwearing.

Examples of Results of Bridges

Bridges

A bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by joining an artificial tooth permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants. One or more missing teeth can adversely affect the appearance and functionality of your smile. Missing teeth can cause a change in occlusion (bite), shifting of the teeth, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), speech impediments, an increased risk for periodontal disease and a greater chance of tooth decay.

Resin Bonded Dental Bridges (Maryland)

An extremely conservative treatment option is the Maryland bridge, this is the method of replacing a missing tooth with an artificial tooth which has been fused to metal ‘wings’.

Cantilever Dental Bridge

The Cantilever bridge is primarily used at the front of the mouth, where a lower level of stress forces are present. A Cantilever bridge is the method of anchoring the new false tooth to one of the current adjacent teeth.

Traditional Fixed Dental Bridge

The Traditional Fixed Bridge is the most commonly used type of bridge. It consists of at least three units to replace one or more missing teeth.

Implant Supported Dental Bridges

Dental Implants are the most convenient way to replace missing teeth. An implant is carefully set into the bone where the tooth root would initially have been.
